Absolute Zero and the physics of cold. Civilization has been profoundly affected by the cold. Building and construction which are fundamental to any successful civilization has had to adapt in major ways to the cold. Our mastery of the cold which includes materials and techniques used in our homes and industry has been responsible for the way our civilization is today.

Home Builders use many innovative materials and techniques that have been pioneered to over come the cold. Even plumbing and drainage have needed unique solutions when it comes to being in a cold environment. Freezing plays havoc with plumbing and the flow of water. Even Australian plumbers such as Sydney plumbers have benefited from the materials developed for piping insulation. The loss of heat from pipework can great increase the running costs of plumbing in a building , if the temperatures are low enough the temperature loss can be so great so as to freeze the pipe works solid, rendering the pipework useless. Even a property manager can tell you tha advances that have been made in homes and buildingws.

All these materials need to with stand cold temperatures and they need to be long lasting and be undamaged by the cold of the environment.

In the last century cold has transformed the way we live. Imagine a life without fridges and freezers, without airconditioning or hospitals without liquid oxygen.
